1962 Chris-Craft Constellation
Delivered new on November 1, 1962 to Beaudoin Yacht Harbor in Sturgeon Bay, WI, this Constellation was used for two years as a sales model, and then sold to a couple from Green Bay, who kept it in Sturgeon Bay. It was sold in 1989 to Marshall Paulson, who wanted to restore it, but, sadly, never got around to it. It was stored indoors while not being restored until 2008, when one of our shipwrights bought it as a personal project.
It is powered by its' original Chris-Craft 430 (Lincoln) 275 hp V-8's. Port engine and transmission rebuilt 2020,1230 hours on starboard, Paragon transmissions with 2 to 1 reductions.
Restoration history:
Summer 2008 and 2009:
Topsides completely stripped to bare wood, replaced 16 planks, re-paint to original colors (blue sheer strake)
Winter 2008 to 2009:
Completely disassembled interior and helm, strip, stain and varnish.
Fall 2009:
Removed railing, sanded decks, re-caulked decks, three coats Sikkens applied. All railings stripped and re-painted, covering boards refinished.
Summer 2010:
Re-assembled interior/helm, new windshield frames and all railings re-installed. Struts removed, new cutlass bearings installed, shafts straightened, bottom painted. New points, rotors, caps, and plug wires. Carburetors rebuilt. Launched for first time in 20 years, and sea trialed.
Summer 2011:
removed all hardware and polished. All new rub rails and stainless j-trim on cabin sides. Interior re-carpeted, new black water tank, cushions and helm seats re-upholstered.
Winter 2011-2012:
Top two transom planks replaced, transom stripped, stained and varnished, sixteen coats. New aft deck railings, swim platform constructed and installed. Fiberglass cabin roof refinished, new vinyl installed on cabin top.
2013:
New water system, hoses, pump, and water heater. Two topside planks replaced at chine.
2014:
110 volt wiring system replaced, dual bank battery charger installed
2015:
Icebox converted to refrigerator with Isotherm system, custom skirt around aft deck rails fitted
Future needs:
Our professional evaluation shows original bottom in excellent condition. Boat will need new decks at some future point.
